Ashtyn Young is heading into her senior year at Maur Hill-Mount Academy after revalidating her love of academics thanks to a pair of prestigious in the summer.
Young attended the American Legion Auxiliary Sunflower Girls State in Topeka as well as a three-week Summer Humanities Institute at Stanford University.
Young was elected supreme court justice at Girls State and also had the opportunity to meet Kansas Supreme Court Justice Marla Luckert as well.
Young said the experience did change her views on what career she hopes to pursue.
“I wanted to be a nuclear physicist, but after Sunflower Girls State I’ve thought of maybe becoming a lawyer,” Young said. “I think being around the political environment sparked that change.”
