Life at Maur Hill-Mount Academy

Family Week at MH-MA

During the summer months, our campus gets a little bit quieter, but there is always basketball or volleyball being played, weights being lifted, art room floor getting covered with paint or dorms being renovated. Like ants in a farm, we keep busy as the school gets ready for the next academic year and students enjoy the calm of warm days.

Every year families come together at Benedictine College for a time of fellowship. As the parents enjoy the talks, the children are swept off to adventures that include running with track and field guild, creating beautiful things with the makery guild, joining Fr. Brown in one of his mysteries with the thespian guild, glazing mugs with the ceramics guild and giving Our Lady of Guadalupe little succulent gardens with the gardening guild. Last week, Maur Hill-Mount Academy ran two guilds for the Family Week.

The ceramics and gardening guilders traveled to our campus from Benedictine College daily. Our art teacher let them use very sharp tools to create relief prints of their own portraits and even carve mugs to make designs before glazing. We are happy to report that we did not have to use one Band-Aid!

Marbling papers may seem like a very messy activity, however, this ancient form of art makes you forget about the floors and the tables being covered in drops of paint.

The gardening guild worked on creating little fairy gardens for the guilders to take home. My plants are already dying because some people are just not blessed with a green thumb.

At least, it looks like weeding her grotto and leaving behind a few succulents in pretty pots made Our Lady happy.

We are looking forward to working with Benedictine College during the next Family Week.

Join us next year for a whole week of faith, fun and fellowship!
